Joel-Peter Witkin is an american photographer born in 1939. His work is often transgressive, showcasing death using decorated corpses and photographic models, usually people with dwarfism or transgender persons.

Probably one of the most striking photographs I've had the pleasure of viewing, taken in 1993 it depicts a headless fat male corpse, sat on a stool with socks on. Simple enough in theory, but very striking and transgressive (probably because its a REAL dead body). Alongside the better known angle of this photo, there are some extra outtakes taken from different angles, which I didnt know about until now. If I didnt fuck up my "research", this photo is either exhibited or held at the Baudoin Lebon Gallery in Paris, France.

Of course this one is best known for being the photo used for the cover of "Molesting The Decapitated" by Devourment, thanks to which I discovered Witkin's work.

On August 30th 2010, Lubomir Harman, an unemployed 48 year old Slovak national, opened fire undiscriminately on the streets of the Devinska Nova Ves district of Bratislava, the Slovenian capital. He had lived for over 20 years on the same flat where he opened fire, and was not acquainted in any way with any of the victims, in fact, he was a bit of a loner, motives remain unclear to this day, though some speculate it might've been caused by neighbourly disputes. The death toll was 8 victims (including Harman), and 17 wounded, making it the second-deadliest attack in the history of modern Slovakia.

Harman utilized a vz-58 semi-automatic rifle, CZ 85 Combat pistol, and CZ 75 Compact pistol for the attack.

Harman started his killing spree at 9:40 AM on the third floor, wearing a pair of blue earmuffs and leather bag hung over his shoulder, which contained many rounds of ammunition. He first entered a flat on his same floor, killing all five family members inside, he then exited the flat and fatally shot Jozef Putik, a member from that same family. He then went outside and spoke with 79-year-old resident Vincent Fratric, all the whole Putik managed to enter his flat to find his entire family dead. Around 5 minutes later Putik ran outside and asked Fratric for help, Harman procedeed to shoot him in the head.

Harman ignored Fratric and began shooting at random people, cars and windows on the street, wounding many, including a former sniper, he was shooting from a newsstand.

At 9:47 a.m., the first police car arrived, police captain Karol Vrchovsky approached Harman at a distance of 60 meters, where Harman shot him, the bullet entered his upper lip and exited his right ear, though it was non-fatal. At 10:10 a.m., a highly awaited specialized unit (colloquially known as "kuklaci") arrived at the site from Malacky, cornering and injuring Harman.

Harman commited suicide with a gunshot to his head.

The district was then sealed by police, with controled transit in and out of it.
